Mosaic Peacock

Mosaic Peacock shows Marisol Vey at her most decorative and most disciplined. The bird is turned in regal profile, its fanned tail filling two-thirds of the frame, and Vey renders every eye-feather as a cluster of glowing tesserae — teal, cobalt and gold tiles ringed in dark leaded line so each ocellus reads like a jewel set in metal. Against a warm amber mosaic ground the cool plumage sings, the complementary contrast giving the whole surface an electric charge. What saves the piece from mere ornament is the impasto: the thick palette-knife tiles hold real relief, so the tail shimmers and shifts as the viewer moves. It is a study in pride and pattern, opulent without tipping into excess — a peacock worthy of the stained-glass tradition it quietly invokes.

An original oil painting on canvas by Marisol Vey, painted to order — never a reproduction. Radiant mosaic-impasto oils — subjects built from thousands of hand-cut palette-knife tiles fitted like stained glass, glowing with jewel colour and inner light.
