Cliffside Town

Cliffside Town is among the most charming works in Lucien Aubry's travel suite. A town of stacked pastel houses tumbles down a steep cliff to a small harbour on a turquoise sea, terraced gardens above and white sailboats below, all beneath a large soft sun. Aubry composes entirely in outline-free planes of terracotta, cream, coral and teal, layering them to build the vertiginous drop, then lays a fine paper grain over the image for the warmth of a vintage poster. Picturesque, sun-warmed and full of Mediterranean charm, it distils the romance of a clifftop village into elegant flat design.
