Bridge in the London Fog
A Thames riverside view at dawn, with a large Victorian stone arch bridge (Waterloo Bridge / Charing Cross spirit) crossing the composition horizontally, entirely wrapped in dense morning mist. The bridge is nearly ghostly — arches barely perceptible, structure dissolving into the fog. Behind the bridge, spectral silhouettes of Victorian industrial buildings (smoking chimneys, towers, rooftops) only suggested as blue-violet shadows. The rising sun filters weakly from the right behind the haze as a veiled amber-orange disc, casting golden glimmers on the Thames water below the bridge.
An original oil painting on canvas by Clara Whitcombe, painted to order — never a reproduction. Impressionist light on water — ponds, bridges, poppy fields and shifting weather.
